I Audited My Own Site. It Wasn’t Pretty.
I’m Stuart Sinclair — a London-based freelance web designer, and for a long time, a fairly generic one.
Years ago I built sinclairwebdesign.com myself, while I was still learning WordPress. It did the job for a while. But somewhere along the way, I realised that “bespoke web design” — the phrase I’d used to describe myself dozens of times across my own site — wasn’t actually a differentiated business. Every freelancer and agency in London says some version of the same thing.
So I did what I’d tell any client to do: I ran a real technical audit on my own site. Here’s exactly what it found.
What the Audit Found
Multiple H1 tags on several pages — including two on the homepage alone.
Thin content on a handful of pages that were never properly finished.
Orphaned pages in the sitemap — pages that exist, but nothing on the site actually links to them.
A missing HSTS security header — confirmed genuinely absent when I checked the site’s response headers directly.
A duplicate title tag, quietly confusing search engines about which page was which.
None of this is dramatic. It’s just what quietly builds up on a WordPress site over years of nobody keeping an eye on it — the exact same pattern I’ve found and fixed on real client sites, including Lipstick Pub Snacks and South London Rubbish Clearance.
